Dolly Parton is the latest recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civilization Award.

Parton is also known for her philanthropy. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s vaccine research efforts. It’s used in part to fund Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.

In 1988, Parton founded the Dollywood Foundation and eventually The Imagination Library, a program to help children around the world access books.
In philanthropy in her home state of Tennessee, Parton also created the Dolly Parton Scholarship, which provides $15,000 to those receiving a college education.
Last year, Bezos awarded $100 million to each CNN contributor Van Jones and chef José Andrés.
Amazon founder and former head Jeff Bezos said in a news conference at the time that there were no strings attached to the grant.
“They can donate it all to their own charity,” Bezos said last year. “Or they can share the wealth. It’s up to them.”
