Donald Trump praises North Korea for joining WHO sparks controversy | World News

Controversy reignited with the latest remarks from former President Donald Trump, this time congratulating North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on joining the World Health Organization’s executive board. While Western observers condemned the move, Trump took a different stance.

“Congratulations Kim Jong-un!” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social. The unexpected message came as countries with questionable human rights records are taking leadership positions in international organizations.

While there has been some progress in easing tensions and repatriating the remains of U.S. troops from the Korean War, there has been no significant progress toward denuclearization. Tensions have since escalated.



Just this week, the United States condemned North Korea’s attempt to use ballistic missile technology to launch a military spy satellite.

In an interview with CNN last month, Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton laid out the former president’s thinking. Bolton said Trump thought foreign leaders, including his opponents, thought highly of him when in reality the opposite was true. Bolton described Trump as a “laughing fool” in the eyes of these leaders.

During his presidency, Trump stopped funding the WHO and announced his intention to withdraw from the international agency.He accused the organization of being slow to respond to the matter Coronavirus disease Pandemic and assist China cover up the threat it poses.



One of President Joe Biden’s early actions in office was to recommit the United States to the World Health Organization and lift a funding freeze imposed by his predecessor. The decision to resume cooperation with the group marks a major departure from Trump’s position.
