Imagine if there was a snowy winter in the UAE, or the Burj Khalifa towered over lush greenery

Architecture in the UAE is stunning, and it can serve as a canvas, inspiring artists to create their own work. From the dragon soaring over Dubai in the epic American sci-fi film Avatar, to the snow-covered buildings and lush green forests surrounding UAE landmarks, visual artists and architects have reimagined the UAE in every possible way.

UAE flag represented by snow, green leaves, Pandora and Mars

The work of Dubai-based contemporary digital artist Jyo John Mulloor has become popular for his rendition of the UAE in extraordinary detail. His mission was to create visuals that represent the four colours on the UAE flag: black, red, green and white.

The artist told Khaleej Times that he started working on his passion project from around 10.30pm (after his family went to bed) until around 3.30am.

Black: Pandora City

Mulloor’s latest creation imagines Pandora from James Cameron’s recreated Avatar in Dubai. The art shows the Museum of the Future towering high in the dream world of the moon outside our solar system:

Giant mushrooms glow while locals ride dragons across the city’s famous skyline:

Red: Mars

What if the Red Planet had its own Burj Al Arab? Well, that’s exactly what Mulloor came up with one day and came up with a whole set of designs for Burj Al Arab 2.0:

Or how about a future museum on Mars?

Green: the blooming kingdom

Mulloor adds a touch of green to the country’s landmarks, and the effect is stunning. His renditions of Burj Khalifa, Burj Khalifa and Dubai frames surrounded by lush green Amazon forests are all the rage.

But check out this picture of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque gleaming in all the greenery:

Snow White

Mulloor begins his journey to reimagine the UAE with a snow-covered UAE. His work is actually the realization of his dream.

“What if the UAE has a snowy winter?” he asked, and this turned out:

World’s largest origami towers high among Dubai skyscrapers

During the Covid-19 pandemic, freelance artist Rohith Rao and his daughter once visited the beach, which offers panoramic views of the Dubai skyline.

“We used to be hooked,” he said. “We were making some origami when she asked me if I could make a giant origami that would match the architecture of Dubai. That’s where I got the idea and inspiration to create one,” says Rohith.

This is how giant paper planes, boats and horses arrive in Dubai:

The artist said he hopes to one day see his work come to life.

Burj Khalifa in the embrace of nature

Architectural 3D visualizer Shebeeb Abdulla adds lush greenery around the Burj Khalifa in his home state of Kerala, India. This Abu Dhabi resident worked for the project for five hours, and every second was worth:

Watch: A giant moon shines

The Canada-based architectural design and intellectual property licensor has placed a giant moon-shaped resort near the Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab:

Dubai is a “pioneer” location for one of the four destination resorts the company plans to license. Michael Henderson, one of the two entrepreneurs behind the concept, told Khaleej Times that the resort has multiple display options, similar to the Burj Khalifa light show. “The whole (building) can be the flag of the UAE,” he said.

Ring of Protection

This is a sci-fi thriller. The architects proposed a 500-meter-high ring that would encircle the entire city center of Dubai, with the Burj Khalifa at the center of its 3-kilometer circumference.

Znera Space’s proposed structure, the Downtown Circle project, is a “massive complex” that offers “an alternative to single and disconnected high-rise buildings”. The ring will be supported by five vertical beams.
