Drew Barrymore ‘shrugged off guilt and dysfunction’ after quitting drinking
The 47-year-old actress described her decision to quit drinking as ‘one of the most liberating things’ [her] The Journey of Life”.
In her magazine titled DREW, the Hollywood star explained: “One of the bravest things you can do is slay those dragons and ultimately change the horrible cycle you find yourself in. To me, Just quit drinking”
Drew admits her life was changed by the decision to quit drinking.
She added: “During the holidays, when we spend so much energy trying to live up to the picture perfect standards set by the world’s Norman Rockwell, I hope you remember to give yourself a pass – a hug, as in the old days – I Will try too.
“Take a moment, take a deep breath and give yourself a squeeze. We’re all here to do our best. That in itself is something to celebrate.”
Drew opened up about her relationship with alcohol in a TV interview in 2021.
The actress, who shot to fame in the early ’80s with ET the Extra-Terrestrial, explained: “For the first time in a long time, I’m going to say something – I haven’t had a drink in two years Half the time. I realized it wasn’t good for me or my life.”
Drew revealed that she has been on a “quiet, confident journey”.
The film star reflected: “I’ve lived my life long enough now that I know it’s really worked out for my little journey, and finally there’s so much peace where there are demons.”
