Drydocks World JV Wins Altera FPSO Vessel Upgrade Contract

Drydocks World, part of DP World, said its joint venture with Aker Solutions, a global supplier of oilfield products, systems and services to the energy sector, has contracted Altera Infrastructure to upgrade a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) in the UK. Oil and gas field ships.

The new joint venture combines the complementary strengths, resources and experience of Drydocks World’s leading marine and offshore services with Aker Solutions’ integrated solutions, products and services to meet the needs of the global energy industry.

Under the agreement, Aker Solutions will be responsible for the detailed design and procurement of the equipment in Norway, while Drydocks World will be responsible for the fabrication and construction at its yard in Dubai.

The joint venture entity has signed its first contract with global energy infrastructure services group Altera Infrastructure to upgrade, refurbish and electrify FPSO Petrojarl Knarr.

The vessel will be redeployed at the Rosebank field, where it has been upgraded to remain there for 25 years without dry docking.

The Petrojarl Knarr FPSO, owned by Altera Infrastructure, is currently at the Aker Solutions shipyard in Norway and will remain there until it is towed to Dubai later this year. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

The contract was officially signed by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World Group and Chairman of Drydocks World, at the headquarters of DP World with the Dubai-based joint venture; Sturla Magnus, Executive Vice President, Superstructure and Facilities, Aker Solutions; and Altera Foundation Arne Hygen Tørnkvist, Executive Vice President, Facilities.

Regarding the partnership agreement, Bin Sulayem said: “The joint venture between Drydocks World and Aker Solutions will provide the global energy industry with world-class marine engineering and construction solutions. The industry needs smart partnerships like this to ensure sustainable Produce and successfully transition equipment and vessels for the future. Today’s announcement is an important step forward.”

Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World-Dubai, said: “Building on our previous strong working relationship and the aligned culture of each partner, the new joint venture between Drydocks World and Aker Solutions will bring the shared strengths and values ​​and provide a range of solutions including engineering, procurement and construction for global markets.”

Tørnkvist is pleased to have signed this contract on behalf of Altera, owner of the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO.
