The Dubai Accessible Travel and Tourism team has launched in the emirate as part of efforts to cement its global status as a year-round accessible travel destination.
The initiative was led by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Group, in partnership with government agencies and private organizations dealing with tourism. He explained: “The team was formed to bring public and private sector authorities under one roof to discuss the need to permanently improve facilities and services for tourists with disabilities. We will use brainstorming sessions to set the agenda, exchange views and determine represent the achievements of each institution in a field.”
The team will hold meetings with those of determination to understand their needs and requirements during the event in the city and while traveling to and within the destination.
According to Ghassan Suleiman Amhaz, the team’s general coordinator, the number of resolvers has reached about 1 billion, equivalent to 10% to 15% of the world’s population. He noted that there are approximately 150 million determined tourists each year looking to travel to cities and other destinations that meet their specific needs.
