Dubai Expo City: UAE’s first 15-minute city and future smart city

[ad_1]

Six months after welcoming the world to the international event, Dubai has closed its doors spectacularly, for the first time in an Arab country. Unlike many previous Expo venues, this spirit and legacy will live on as the former exhibition area is transformed into the city of the future.

Dubai Expo City

What exactly is Expo City Dubai? Chief Development and Delivery Officer Ahmed Al Khatib explained the concept,

“It’s a combination of education, entertainment, new ways of working, work experience, not to mention that there is a very high demand for organisations to come and move here. A lot of people come here actually to align with the vision and what we’re trying to achieve. From now on By the end of the year, all the pavilions should be open, of course the content will vary.”

What Expo City can offer

Many of the pavilions will remain and be repurposed based on ideas and developments ranging from cultural centers and universities to consulates and restaurants. Expo officials are scrutinizing each proposal to align with the city’s vision. The people-centred sustainable city will span 1,083 acres. 80% of the website will be reused. Visitors and residents will enjoy 10km of cycling paths, a 5k jogging track and 45,000 sqm of gardens and parks. When open to the public, visitors will enjoy former attractions such as the Terra and Alif Pavilions, surreal water features, sky gardens, dining options and the site’s only hotel.

Paul Bridger, COO of Rove Hotels, talks about the impact of the Expo and what to expect in the future.

“The expo itself is a big thing for this part of the world, and as we go from October, 80% of the real estate is still there, I think you can still be at that event, but also see it develop. And I Felt people liked the area very much during the expo. The hotel was very busy. It’s gotten a little quieter since then. We welcome a lot of people to visit the area in the summer and “see what’s going on.” I think by October, we’re really looking forward to seeing attractions reopen. The destination reopened, with many start-ups and anchor tenants entering the area. “

The exhibition centre will continue to operate in Dubai Expo City and will host global events such as COP 28 in 2023. Fortune 500 companyand local companies are working to open offices here, as well as companies like DP World and Siemens.

Smart City

As explained by Dr. Shao Ling, Chief Scientist of Terminus Group and President of Terminus International, the business world will enjoy a specially curated ecosystem with 5G and IoT technologies.

“Expo City is going to be a smart city, right? So it’s like a major playground for different AI-related technologies, including computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. All of these technologies can be used around a smart city scenario. That’s why you need a lot of highly, highly advanced technology companies that will be based in Expo City, cooperating with Expo City and contributing to its development.”

the first fifteen minutes of the city

Those who choose to call the Expo Village home will live and work in the UAE’s first 15-minute drive city, where communities are connected by sidewalks and autonomous vehicle routes.

Rebecca Elyse Roffe, a real estate sales consultant with Better Homes, said they consulted on homes from people from all countries and all walks of life.

“So Expo City is located in dubai south, the latest city to be built as part of Dubai. When completed, Dubai South will be bigger than Hong Kong. Dubai residents are always early adopters and always very excited about new ideas and concepts. So the idea of this 15-minute city is a UAE first. So we already have a lot of people who are very interested in learning more. We do see inquiries from people in all countries, from all walks of life. Local Emiratis who were born and lived here all their lives are still interested in living in this 15-minute city. It is of interest to people who are moving to the UAE for the first time and who may have never lived abroad. People are so excited that they can do 90% of their daily tasks in 15 minutes, just by walking or biking. “

As the magic of Expo 2020, Dubai and its far-reaching legacy continue, many look to its great potential as a city of the future, which in turn will benefit generations to come for years to come.
