The Dubai Municipality is hosting the seventh edition of the Hatta Honey Festival at the Municipality’s Hatta Hall from 27-31 December 2022, featuring 50 Emirati beekeepers.
In line with the municipality’s efforts to provide necessary assistance to the local production sector of Hatta, the festival aims to support the UAE’s honey production industry and improve economic opportunities available to its citizens.
Alia Al Harmoodi, acting CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Environment, Health and Safety Authority, emphasized that the event illustrates the importance of the hatta honey production industry and is one of the key development initiatives aimed at improving the industry in the country.
She added that this is in line with the comprehensive development plan for Hatta announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which involves the development of Hatta, carrying out various development and Economic activity initiatives and projects, and investment opportunities for the private sector.
“Dubai Municipality, through the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), will provide exhibitors and visitors with a rapid assessment of honey samples using the latest technological innovations and chemical testing equipment. A commitment to UAE standards,” said Al Harmoodi.
The role of the DCL is to provide a variety of tests including analysis of total sugars, glucose, fructose, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), enzymes, moisture and acidity. These tests assess the quality of the honey and cover all varieties of honey presented at the festival.
A team at DCL is educating exhibitors and visitors about the importance of the tests they are doing and how they reflect the quality of the honey, and raising awareness about the proper production and storage of honey so that it retains its properties and nutritional benefits.
The festival serves as a platform to educate visitors about the varieties of honey and the characteristics of each type. In addition, the event also has several parts such as a production family market, a honey sample inspection corner and a children’s play area. In addition, guests will receive various precious gifts. – trade arab news agency
