In a groundbreaking initiative, Abu Dhabi introduces a continuous 24/7 bus service to Dubai, exclusively serving COP28 participants. The fleet, comprised of nine all-electric buses, conducts 44 daily trips, shuttling passengers between Terminal A of Abu Dhabi International Airport and the COP28 venue at Expo City Dubai.
Driving Sustainable Change
Green Bus Program Takes the Lead
Operated under the Green Bus program by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi, this service marks a significant milestone as the first intercity bus transportation between emirates operating round the clock.
Environmental Impact: COP28
Reducing Carbon Footprint
Covering a daily distance of 520 km, these electric buses contribute to a reduction of 3.7 tonnes of carbon emissions per day. Post COP28, the buses will seamlessly integrate into Abu Dhabi’s public transport fleet.
Toward a Greener Future
Expanding Eco-Friendly Transportation
As part of the ongoing expansion of green bus services in Abu Dhabi, the fleet is expected to cover approximately 3,150 km daily, resulting in an annual reduction of over 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The rapid two-hour charging time for electric buses adds to the efficiency of the initiative.
Aligning with Sustainability Goals
Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050
This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation, supporting environmental protection efforts and contributing to the government’s strategy to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050. The service represents a pivotal step towards establishing a comprehensive transportation system that meets the needs of residents and visitors while promoting sustainable practices.
