DUBAI: The Dubai Ladies Club will host the fifth and largest annual charity fashion show in May to support girls’ education in developing countries.

The “Designs of Hope” exhibition, taking place May 2-7, will be held in partnership with social enterprise and online boutique “Brides do Good,” featuring more than 100 luxury brands and bride-donated second-hand wedding dresses from designer, retail businessmen, influencers and members of the public.

Organizers announced that the gowns will be on sale for 50% to 75% off their original retail price.

The event was held under the patronage of Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Dubai Ladies Club, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs of the UAE, and supported by The “Teachers” campaign initiated by Al Manal Humanitarian Organization.

Funds raised from the event will support Ethiopia’s comprehensive education program, which will be implemented in partnership with Plan International, a humanitarian organization working in 71 countries to promote children’s rights and equality.

Since the launch of this year’s bridal edition, the Dubai Ladies Club has received generous donations in support of this noble cause. A designer named Rami Al Ali participated in the exhibition by donating a wedding dress worth Dh100,000 to promote girls’ education, organizers said.

Leading UAE influencers are also actively involved in the cause, making their contribution. The public is also encouraged to donate wedding dresses to support the exhibition.

“The ‘Design for Hope’ exhibition is in line with the Dubai Ladies Club’s commitment during the Year of Zayed to celebrate the legacy of the UAE’s founding father, whose generosity and charitable work positively impacted the lives of people across the globe,” said Lamia Abdul Le said Aziz Khan, Director of Dubai Ladies Club

She added that the exhibition also reflects Shaikha Manal’s humanitarian efforts and her commitment to empowering girls through education to enhance their contribution to economic and social development. “Providing girls with access to quality education will have a sustainable impact on the cultural, social, health and economic aspects of society.”

As part of a wider plan for 39,550 refugee and local children aged 3 to 14 in Ethiopia, the education project will support six schools in the host community with 18 new classrooms, new toilets and learning materials.

The project includes accelerated remedial classes for children who are falling behind, training teachers in how to provide post-traumatic counseling and support to disadvantaged children, especially girls, and establishing community learning centers to increase adult literacy and support mothers as mentors and advocates for girls’ education. .

Chantal Khoueiry, Founder of Brides do Good said: “We come together to create positive change while making dreams come true. When girls are agents of change, when we invest in their education, when we equip them to reach their full potential When given the opportunity, they can carve their own paths in life, and we can create a safer, healthier, more prosperous future for all, for generations to come.”

Funds raised through this partnership will be donated to their philanthropic implementing partner, Plan International, which works tirelessly to advance child rights and equality for girls around the world, she said.

Additionally, the event will feature 1,000 designer gowns and gowns donated by 26 prominent Emirati fashion brands and designers, priced at just AED 1,000 each. During the event, the designers will also showcase their latest Eid abaya collections.
