An Asian man has been convicted of fabricating a kidnapping scenario by three men of his own nationality, claiming they put him in the boot of a car, beat him and forcibly stole Dh12,000 from him.
However, his story did not fool the Dubai police. Authorities found out the truth of what actually happened and issued a “false communication” report for the accused. He was handed over to the Public Prosecution Service and from there to the Criminal Court, which fined him Dh5,000. The investigation revealed that the accused fabricated the story to retaliate against the accused.
According to police records, the accused had gone to Al Khawaneej Police Station to report that he had been robbed under duress in the Warsan area of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street.
In his report, he claimed he was standing in front of his truck when he was suddenly attacked by three men. According to him, the assailants put him in the trunk of a car, took him to an apartment in an unknown location, assaulted him and confiscated Dh12,000 from him.
The police noticed that there were obvious loopholes in the defendant’s statement, so they conducted necessary investigations and decided to confront the suspect. The cornered defendant admitted he fabricated the story, revealing it was due to financial disputes with the three men involved.
