Khaleej Times met with these three people on Wednesday: Ashraf, the Moroccan watchman; Atif Mehmood, a salesman in Pakistan; and Nasser, an Indian driver working with the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
The three have different backgrounds and did not know each other before the incident. “We all got together just to save this cat,” Atif said.
Now they have established a WhatsApp group.
This video was shot by Mohammed Rashid, an Indian who runs a grocery store in the area. After he posted it to his Instagram account, Sheikh Mohammed shared it.
In the video, the cat can be seen dangling from the balcony. The three-person team quickly took the position below, and the sheets were rolled out as a safety net. The cat fell into the bed sheet and might have saved her life. When she walked away safe and sound, the men patted her.
Nasser told Khaleej Times that he saw the pregnant cat dangling from the balcony at around 8 o’clock on Tuesday morning. “First, we took out a plastic sheet, but the cat refused to jump in. Then we took out the sheets, and she jumped up.”
When asked where the sheets came from, they looked at each other and were puzzled. “We are not sure. I think it was sent by the Almighty,” Nasser said.
“I’m glad that this cat and her kittens are still alive.”
Atif Mehmood said he was relieved to be able to save the cat’s life. “I just want to tell everyone that we must respect and love animals as we treat humans.”
Mohammed Rashid said that he filmed the incident because it was an extraordinary scene. “This video quickly went viral on the Internet and reached Sheikh Mohammed.
“When my friend told me that Sheikh Mohammed shared my video, I was very excited.”
He said that his phone has been ringing ever since.
He added that the cat is very good. “She is very friendly and often comes to our grocery store, where we feed her milk.”
