Abu Dhabi: Three new options are now available for Dubai beachgoers who aren’t quite ready to wind up after sunset.
Dubai Municipality has opened three new beaches for night swimming, the Dubai Media Office (DMO) reported.
At Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim, each 800-meter-long beach has powerful floodlights to illuminate the sea, allowing residents and tourists to swim safely after dark.
The beach also has electronic screens that display important safety information.
Each beach has qualified lifeguards on duty after dark and swimming is available from dusk to dawn.
The announcement comes as summer temperatures start to pick up across the UAE. Residents and visitors can head to the beach after dusk to take advantage of the slightly cooler weather.
In order to enhance safety, the Dubai Municipality recommends that people who go to the beach only perform night swimming in designated areas and avoid going into the sea from other areas.
In addition to maintaining the highest possible cleanliness, the city government has stressed the importance of safety awareness, compliance with beach rules and regulations, constant monitoring of children and following lifeguard instructions.
“The initiative also forms part of the municipality’s beach development plan to offer unique experiences. The new facility will further enhance Dubai’s status as a beach tourism destination,” said Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
