The authorities began to relax restrictions and increase capacity starting on Thursday.

Places of worship in Dubai welcomed the increase in capacity and hope that they will return to the pre-pandemic era in the near future.

The Ministry of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) issued a notice on Wednesday under the direction of the command center, relaxing restrictions and increasing capacity. DTCM stated that the capacity of all places of worship can be increased from 30% to 50%. The directive will take effect from Thursday.

As part of the multicultural structure of Dubai, the heads of religious institutions are pleased with this news.

Lalit Karani, chairman of Shreenathji (Krishna) Temple in Bur Dubai, run by the Teda (Sindh) commercial Hindu community, said they look forward to welcoming more believers.

“We are very pleased with the decision to increase production capacity from 30% to 50%,” Karani said. We will continue to comply with all preventive measures and social distancing regulations as required by the authorities. People are also very satisfied with the increase in production capacity, and we look forward to achieving full capacity operation in the future. “

Kalani said that the instruction is at the right time, and the Hindu festival Krishna Janmashtami, celebrating the birth of Krishna, is coming soon. Krishna Janmashtami is on August 30th.

“There are many Hindu festivals during Shravan, including Krishna Janmashtami at the end of the month. This decision came at the right time,” he said.

Kalani hopes to change the schedule so that more believers can visit the temple.

“This is a mobile crowd, so it won’t be much different (changes in capacity), but we look forward to changes in time. We have about 3,000 people on weekends, which is a mobile crowd. If we increase time, it will be more Many believers can come and pray,” Kalani said.

Currently, devotees are allowed to be open from 6.30 am to 7.30 am, 10.30 am to 11.30 am, and 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

Regarding precautions and social distancing agreements, he said: “We still follow the same social distancing guidelines and nothing needs to be changed. For the past six months, we have been putting stickers on social distancing. And we are very good. The crowd is controlled, so it is seamless. We also have thermal imaging cameras.”

At the same time, pastor priest. Binish Babu, chairman and pastor of the St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral in Dubai, prays that they will be able to return to full capacity.

“Although the distance of two meters still exists, we are very happy that the capacity has increased. We hope and pray that we can resume full capacity operation as soon as possible,” he said. “If the distance between two meters is shortened to one meter, we can accommodate 100 to 200 people. When it reaches 30%, 60 people can attend Mass. Now, according to the new directive, more people will have the opportunity to attend Mass, in accordance with current regulations , We can accommodate up to 90 people.”

The church’s precautions and social distancing protocols remain unchanged. Only those registered on its website can enter and undergo strict screening and temperature testing at the main entrance. The registration process is carried out to give members an equal opportunity to attend Mass. Masks and gloves are mandatory, and there are two-meter stickers inside the church. Only the main door is open, the other seven doors are sealed. There are proper access channels. Children under 12 years old are not allowed in.

Mass is held on Friday morning and evening, and the church will be disinfected by the cleaning company after each service. Those who are unable to participate can watch the live broadcast of the masses.
