The new payment method is in the internal testing phase and will be launched within two weeks.
A senior official said on Sunday that motorists in Dubai will be able to pay parking tickets through the social media app WhatsApp within the next two weeks.
Ahmed Mahboub, Executive Director of Parking, Dubai Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), said that this new payment method is in the internal testing phase and will be launched in less than two weeks.
“The information people send is the same as the information they sent on 7275. The same content will be sent to WhatsApp, and then it will seek confirmation from the customer. This is the same method people use for SMS parking. The amount will be from the digital valet Deducted,” he said.
By using WhatsApp, motorists do not need to pay the 30 fils they pay to the UAE telecom service provider when they use SMS to pay for parking tickets.
He also pointed out that RTA has improved its smart map to help find the exact location of a parking ticket.
Bicycle lane monitoring
Meera Al Shaikh, Director of RTA Intelligent Services, said that RTA is demonstrating the application of artificial intelligence, data technology and machine learning functions in bicycle lanes.
“We installed a camera on the Nad Al Sheba bike lane as a proof of concept to monitor people’s speed, bike lane occupancy and whether they wear helmets. As we progress, we will deploy cameras on different bike lanes in Dubai, And will use all the data we captured. The project will be launched on the main bike lanes in the next few months,” Al Shaikh said.
She pointed out that this initiative aims to raise the awareness of cyclists in Dubai.
Speaking at Gitex Global, Meera Al Shaikh stated that public transportation users can now use Huawei watches to pay for their Nol tariffs. People who own a Huawei watch can tap their watch on all devices that accept Nol pay. More than 12,000 retail stores accept Nol cards,” she said, adding that work on Google and Apple devices is ongoing.
