Dubai: The world’s first green mosque is now open; it can hold 600 worshippers-News

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received 83 points for the inauguration ceremony of the world’s first mosque with a platinum rating for green buildings awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED v4).

According to the highest environmental sustainability standards, the Hatta Mosque covers an area of ​​1,050 square meters and can accommodate more than 600 worshippers.

“This is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Chief of Dubai. This plan outlines a comprehensive road map for urban development based on sustainable development, making Dubai a The most livable place in the world,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA.

The mosque includes a 25-meter-high minaret, parking for cars and motorcycles, facilities for the determined man, and a green charging station. It saves about 26.5% of energy and 55% of water. Solar photovoltaic panels and a water treatment device are currently being installed to reuse water for irrigation and cleaning.

DEWA also ensures air quality through the use of high-efficiency air purification equipment, provides a sustainable and healthy environment in the mosque, and uses recycled materials in the construction.

“The completion of the world’s first mosque to receive the Green Building Platinum rating from the Hatta Energy and Environmental Design Leadership Agency is part of DEWA’s efforts to support Hatta’s comprehensive and sustainable development plan and meet its social, economic and social needs. Environmental development ,” Al Tayer added.

Obtaining LEED Platinum certification shows that the mosque meets all international sustainable development standards and achieves the highest level of efficiency.

“This supports the UAE’s efforts to combat climate change,” said Dr. Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shabani, Director-General of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities (IACAD) in Dubai.

“IACAD has a global mission with a focus on promoting moderate Islamic values, developing charitable work, and building mosques in accordance with international best practices. The completion of the mosque reflects outstanding initiatives that prioritize sustainable practices and human health,” Al added Sabani.
