Dubai Shrouded in Thick Fog as Temperatures Plunge

Dubai’s Foggy Awakening: Embracing Change and Chilly Temps

As the dawn broke over parts of Dubai, residents were greeted by an unexpected visitor – thick fog accompanied by a noticeable dip in temperatures. Among those navigating through the misty morning were devout worshippers heading to mosques for prayers after suhoor, alongside the city’s early-rising office workers.

In neighborhoods like Karama and Abu Hail, where mosques stand as beacons of community, the fog enveloped the streets, reducing visibility and leaving a delicate dew on parked cars. Despite the obscured surroundings, the crescent moon hung faintly in the sky, a reminder of continuity amidst change.

Jameel A., an Egyptian expatriate returning from prayers, expressed surprise at the sudden shift in weather. “It was quite sunny and hot yesterday. I didn’t expect the temperatures to drop so drastically,” he remarked, noting the 18ºC chill in Abu Hail.

For commuters traversing the city’s metro system, those fortunate enough to secure a spot in the last cabin found themselves treated to hazy glimpses of the outside world. Among them, Samantha D’souza, an Indian expat en route to work, welcomed the cooler temperatures, linking them to discussions she had heard about a temperature drop towards the end of Ramadan. “I hope this weather persists during the Eid vacations,” she mused, embracing the change.

In Al Quoz, despite the fog’s veil, the sun fought its way through the thick blanket, casting a surreal glow over the waking city. Even the towering Burj Khalifa, typically omnipresent in Dubai’s skyline, found itself partially concealed by the dense fog, adding an air of mystery to the familiar landscape.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Abu Dhabi, authorities issued warnings to motorists, emphasizing the need for caution amidst reduced visibility. Electronic information boards flashed changing speed limits, urging drivers to adapt to the shifting conditions. As a precautionary measure, speed limits were lowered on several roads across the emirate, ensuring the safety of all travelers.

According to forecasts by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), today’s weather is expected to remain generally fair, with occasional cloud cover and increasing humidity by nightfall and into Saturday morning, particularly in internal and coastal areas, notably the northern regions. The persistent foggy conditions are anticipated to linger into tomorrow morning, potentially accompanied by mist formation.

Moderate winds are forecasted to sweep across the region, with the sea maintaining a slight swell in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.  Dubai Temperatures are predicted to plummet to a chilly 12ºC in mountainous regions, while internal areas could experience highs of up to 36ºC, reflecting the dynamic weather patterns characteristic of the region.

As Dubai and its neighboring emirates navigate through the foggy embrace of change, residents find themselves adapting to the ebb and flow of nature’s rhythms, embracing both the challenges and the unexpected delights that each new day brings.

For businesses, the fog presents both challenges and opportunities. While transportation and logistics may experience delays and disruptions, cafes and restaurants welcome the cooler weather, enticing patrons with steaming cups of chai and freshly baked pastries. The city’s famed outdoor markets take on a mystical air, their stalls obscured by the fog, yet their offerings beckoning curious shoppers to explore.

Despite the Dubai temporary inconvenience, the fog offers a moment of respite from the relentless heat that often blankets the region. Families take advantage of the cooler temperatures, gathering in parks and green spaces to enjoy picnics and outdoor activities. Children laugh and play amidst the mist, their joyful voices cutting through the quiet stillness of the morning.

As the day progresses and the sun begins to assert its dominance over the lingering fog, the city awakens to a renewed sense of energy and purpose. Office workers settle into their routines, the foggy morning already fading into a distant memory. Tourists venture out to explore Dubai’s myriad attractions, undeterred by the earlier weather conditions.
