question: I am an expatriate experiencing financial hardship. I’m going to send my family home. I have almost paid off all my debts except my children’s tuition. Will this affect my plans to send them back? What legal disputes might I face?

answer: Based on your inquiry, it is assumed that you and your family are residents of Dubai. Assume further that you have already sponsored UAE residency for your wife and children.

Since you are facing financial difficulties in the UAE and you plan to send your family back to your home country, your family may not face any problems traveling to your home country.

However, without payment of tuition fees, you may not receive proof of transfer and test scores from the school your child is attending in Dubai. Since you are the legal guardian of a child in the UAE, the school may initiate civil proceedings against you. Therefore, you may consider contacting the school to resolve tuition-related issues amicably.
