An African-American woman has tricked an Arab man into believing she owns 18 gold bars in an African country and needs Dh50,000 to clear them through customs through Instagram. She promised to give eight of these gold bars if he paid for her.

The man began transferring money to her in installments until the total reached Dh185,000 – including two payments he made in cash to Dubains.

When he realized he had fallen victim to the scam, the man reported the incident to the police and the person who took his money was arrested. He was charged with fraud by the Dubai Public Prosecution Authority.

In the police’s inference report and the investigation of the public prosecution agency, the defendant admitted that he accepted money from the victim, but denied committing fraud. The court subsequently declared him innocent.
