Abu Dhabi: Dubai will soon have a 93km sustainable urban highway called ‘THE LOOP’.
Dubai-based sustainable urban development company URB aims to create the world’s first enclosed circular structure that wraps around a city.
The new highway is designed to connect more than 3 million residents to key services and locations within minutes by foot and bicycle.
URB recently released images of ‘THE LOOP’, showing an enclosed structure that wraps around the city, linking all of Dubai’s densest districts.
Several wellness hotels can be located along its serpentine structure, designed as a center for wellness tourism. The developer plans to cater to all types of travelers with luxury, mid-range and budget hotels. There will also be fitness stations and playing fields.
The project also includes several entry and exit points connecting different neighborhoods, public spaces and existing pathways, as well as the use of “100% renewable energy using kinetic energy”, while all water is recycled for irrigation.
This versatile utopia includes lush parks and vertical farming projects that help maintain food security in the surrounding area.
The project is currently in the research and development phase, but if approved, it would be an important part of the city’s plan to reduce car dependence, allowing city residents to walk or bike to essential amenities near their homes within minutes.
The ‘THE LOOP’ project is in line with the UAE’s ambition to become a 20-minute drive city, allowing residents to walk or cycle to their destinations and necessities within 20 minutes.
