The Duke of Sussex’s memoir’s title choice is said to show his “sense of humour”.
Branding expert Nick Ed added that Prince Harry’s decision to call the upcoming book “Alternate” – said to be a reference to his nickname “Alternate Heir” – was also intended to show that the royal family “has been through a lot”.
Nick told Mail Online’s FEMAIL section on Thursday (10/27/22): “Choosing the title ‘SPARE’ is not only provocative but also fits Harry’s sense of humor.
“While it was a bold choice, it was a brave one and it immediately showed that this book would never show Prince Harry a ‘backup’.
“The use of singular titles is empowering and power.
“A singular word for the title is empowerment, and using spare is a way to recycle it, making it a powerful empowerment tool for himself and his readers.”
Nick spoke of the cover photo for the book, which will be published on 10 January 2023, which shows Harry staring into the camera: “(It) is not a person who looks refined and elegant, but a person who looks, relaxed , stripped naked and quietly confident.
“It doesn’t rely on stylized imagery, but he looks at the camera honestly, ready to show the media his weaknesses and his story.
“Harry’s detailed close-up photos show him as a strong, handsome man with a serious face, staring blankly into the camera, whose mission is to tell his truth.
“He was ill-fitting, bootless or overly flashy, showing off his T-shirt and the now-familiar leather necklace.
“It’s a strong commanding image of a man who’s been through a lot, and he’s here to tell stories of grief and love in equal measure.”
Harry reportedly paid $20m (£18.4m) upfront for the book as part of a three-book deal worth £36.8m, but the royal family has donated $1.5m (£1.3m) from the book to Children’s charity Sentebale and £300,000 to WellChild, a disabled youth charity of which he is patron.
