Much of the film’s success is due to a storyline that is faithful to Herbert’s rich novel, thanks to writers Jon Spaihts and Eric Ross, and the uncompromising vision of the writer and director Denis Villeneuve.

Kozhaya added that being close to “a well-appointed metropolis” like Abu Dhabi was also crucial for filming, as the cast and crew on the six-day shoot “need a place to call home”.

“Also, it’s important to have talented local staff,” Kozaia said. “With the support we need, we can move into Abu Dhabi from the facility and work with the Film Commissioner and other offices.”

Kozhaya confirmed plans to increase the number of local crew members this time around.

“We estimate that we will create around 700 to 800 jobs in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

Kozhaya also revealed what audiences can expect from the sequel to the film, which has a planned release date of November 3, 2023.

“We’re going to continue the world-building we started in part one and really ramp up the action in part two,” he said.
