Union Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from August 31 to September 2 to co-chair a bilateral joint committee meeting and a strategic dialogue that will give both sides an edge on the relationship.

During the visit, Jaishankar will co-chair the 14th meeting of the India-UAE Joint Committee and the 3rd Strategic Dialogue with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“These meetings will provide an opportunity for the two ministers to review the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE and the entire scope of regional and global development,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The two countries are committed to advancing the partnership in a number of areas including trade, investment, traditional and renewable energy, food security, health, skills development, education, culture, defense, space, consular issues and people-to-people relations, the ministry said.

Officials from both sides also discussed cooperation in these areas during a meeting of the Bilateral Joint Commission Subcommittee on August 23-24.

The UAE is home to some 3.5 million Indian diaspora and is one of India’s key strategic partners in West Asia. Trilateral cooperation between India and the UAE, as well as other partners, has grown with Israel’s signing of the Abraham Accords and the formation of I2U2 (a group comprising India, Israel, UAE and the US).

Jaishankar will also meet other dignitaries in the UAE. Since the beginning of this year, India and the UAE have frequently conducted high-level visits and other interactions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Abu Dhabi on June 28 and met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders also held a virtual summit on February 18, during which they signed the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and adopted a vision statement.

The two leaders also attended the virtual I2U2 summit on July 14. The group unveiled food security and clean energy-focused initiatives during the summit, including a $2 billion Indian food park development plan and a $330 million hybrid renewable energy project. Gujarat.
