EcoWASTE 2022 exhibition and forum kicks off in Abu Dhabi

The eighth edition of the EcoWASTE 2022 exhibition and forum opened today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) with the slogan “Exploring Future Opportunities in Waste Management for a Circular Economy”. The event, a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), will run until 19 January at the Tadweer.

The event began with an opening statement by His Excellency Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director General of Tadweer. Your Excellency affirmed the importance of the exhibition, which will provide participating investors, innovators and technology providers with the opportunity to collaborate to find new solutions for sustainable waste management, develop new trade opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and discover the latest Innovation and expertise.

His Excellency Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi said: “Decision-makers, officials and leading experts in the field of waste management from all over the world gather at EcoWASTE. The exhibition and forum aim to review the latest trends in the industry, the latest technologies, the latest in the field of sustainable waste management and advanced solutions, as well as its investments in various industries. The exhibition and forum are a comprehensive platform for exchanging best practices and experiences and for strengthening and building strategic partnerships among the most prominent experts in the field.”

Outstanding achievements

On the first day of the event, Tadweer highlighted the most important achievements for 2021, contributing to its vision of developing a sustainable waste management system and addressing public health threats in Abu Dhabi.

In 2021, the centre processed around 11 million tonnes of medical and hazardous waste and recycled around 2.9 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste in the UAE. The center installed 200 new smart mosquito traps in the emirate, increasing the total number of mosquito traps to 640, in addition to reducing the number of disease-carrying pests by 56 percent.

The center announced that 80 percent of its COVID-19 recovery plan has been executed in accordance with its execution plan, with approximately 95 percent of its safety and occupational health management systems in place, and 96 percent of its business sustainability management development programs. In terms of monitoring, the center found more than 14,000 cases of random dumping of sewage, about 25,000 garbage transport vehicles leaving the Abu Dhabi border, and more than 764,000 cases of permission to enter official stations.

His Excellency Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer), and heads of departments and divisions attended the official opening of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week held as part of Expo 2020 Dubai. On the first day of the exhibition, the Tadweer Pavilion was well attended by visitors who learned about the most prominent projects carried out by the Centre, the leading agency responsible for integrated waste management in Abu Dhabi. Tadweer is playing a key role in achieving the UAE’s circular economy goals by employing innovative waste management mechanisms and solutions.

The first day of EcoWASTE included the Forum on Waste Management Solutions, with opening remarks by the Director General of Tadweer, HE Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi. The forum focused on the importance of the event and its objectives, and reviewed the UAE’s experience in transitioning to a circular economy, as well as the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing the growing challenges in waste management.

The forum includes a series of panel discussions featuring industry leaders and company representatives addressing very important topics such as: Circular Economy, Rethinking Product Manufacturing and Packaging Strategies; Circular Economy: Increasing Jobs with B Corp Certification; How to Use technical design waste management services; the future of waste management; landfill reduction strategies; the importance of applying approved safety standards in waste management; and other topics.

Global Engagement

EcoWASTE has a total of more than 35 local, regional and international companies exhibiting, of which 12 are exhibiting for the first time, with a total area of ​​1100 square meters.
