Editorial: Entertainment shouldn’t include stealing signs

[ad_1]

There have been incidents of theft and vandalism around the Ithaca College campus.Exit signs, cones and neutral bathroom signs are gone, it’s up to the facilities office to replace and make sure it doesn’t go awayrepeat. Unfortunately, the Office of Facilities does not have the authority to oversee every sign around campus, so these incidents keep happening. Notably, reports of theft and criminal mischief have been decreasing since fall 2021, And in fall 2021, there were 33 burglaries and 35 reports of criminal mischief, and in spring 2023, Only 26 thefts and 16 criminal mischief were reported.

Fewer thefts doesn’t mean the problem is solved. There are still many incidents of sign theft, and there is nothing the facilities office can do about it other than keep replacing the signs. People who steal signs should understand that their actions can hurt others in various ways. The lack of signs can create confusion among people trying to get to a particular location, the lack of cones can create a dangerous situation as someone gets into a location they shouldn’t be in, and also, it’s somewhat insulting to the staff of the office facility They try to make the university a welcoming place, but some disrespect their efforts by stealing the sign.

some students like to steal signs decorate their room. While students may view stealing signs as a fun activity, their actions can still hurt others, even if the original intention was not to cause inconvenience. If decorating a room with signs is fun for students, they can buy signs online instead of stealing them. The next time you engage in an activity like this, ask yourself if it’s worth making trouble for others.
