As the aviation industry grapples with a pilot shortage, the Emirates Flight Training Academy (EFTA)’s third graduation ceremony welcomed 53 new pilots into the industry after training at its world-class facilities.
In the latest ceremony, EFTA celebrated the crossing of three important milestones, including graduation – the first time international students have graduated since the Academy opened to non-Emirati students in late 2019 – the largest cohort – more than 50 students, Twice the size of previous events and more than 100 cadets since the first graduation in 2020.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Airline and Group, congratulated the trainee graduates and presented certificates. The Emirates executive management team in attendance included: Sir Tim Clark, Emirates President; Adel Redha, Chief Operating Officer; Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer and Ali Al Soori, Executive Vice President, Chairman’s Office and Facilities/Project Management .

EFTA also hosted senior leaders from the UAE’s aviation community, including Mohammed Abdullah Ahli, Director General, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA); Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC); Tahnoon Saif, Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Centre; Major General Ali Atiq Bin Lahej, Director General of Airport Security, Dubai Police;
Sheikh Ahmed said: “Years ago we realized the need for well-trained pilots to support the needs of commercial aviation, and as a global airline and industry leader, we felt compelled to act. Today’s graduation Marks our long-standing achievement – a long-term vision to establish a state-of-the-art Emirates Flight Training Academy, welcoming and developing young talent not only locally but globally. Our next generation of highly skilled, well-trained cadets is a testament to The academy is passionate about the aviation industry. We could not be more proud of EFTA’s graduates and team.”

We have great admiration for the spirit of our students , positivity and enthusiasm as they sail through the rigors of ground school and flight lessons.

The ceremony triggered a range of emotions as the young graduates took to the stage, cheered by their proud family and friends. It stands to reason that young cadets successfully complete a rigorous program of 900 hours of ground training and 250 hours of flight instruction to earn their Integrated Air Transport Pilot License.
EFTA also recognizes the best and hardest-working trainees for their achievements in all aspects of the training programme.
According to new research from Oliver Wyman, the aviation industry will have a global shortfall of 34,000 pilots by 2025, which could increase to 50,000 when taking into account the impact of furloughs and retirements. The Middle East could face a shortfall of 3,000 pilots by 2023 and 18,000 by 2032, driven by a projected surge in demand for air travel. Boeing estimates the global pilot shortage will widen to 602,000 by 2041 and 53,000 in the Middle East. – – trade arab news agency
