EIC's Connect 2023 highlights business opportunities in UAE

EIC’s flagship event in the UAE brings together key industry players to support UAE businesses in the energy sector.

ABU DHABI, 31st May, 2023 – The Energy Industries Council (EIC), one of the world’s leading trade associations for energy supply chain companies, has successfully concluded Connect UAE 2023, the The premier event for energy companies in the United Arab Emirates.

This year’s edition has special significance because it coincides with EIC’s celebration of 80 years of excellence in supporting the energy industry.

Now in its 12th consecutive year, Connect UAE attracted nearly 200 attendees, including influential contractors, operators and local businesses. The event is an important platform for networking, knowledge exchange and exploration of project opportunities in the dynamic UAE energy landscape.

On 16 May, the EIC Connect session kicked off with an opening address from Ryan McPherson, EIC Regional Director for Middle East, Africa, Russia and CIS, who emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation for UAE businesses to grow in the energy sector.

Simon Penney, the British government’s Middle East Trade Commissioner and Consul General in Dubai, then gave his opening remarks. Penney emphasized the importance of the meeting and the role of the Middle East in driving global energy progress.

Mashal Saoud Al-Kindi, Acting CEO of TA’ZIZ and Co-Chair of the UUBC Energy Working Group, took the stage next to share valuable insights into the energy market. Al-Kindi emphasized the need for collaboration and discussed various project opportunities in the industry.

Anand Kumar, EIC Business Development Manager, provides an overview of the UAE energy market, illuminating key trends and areas of growth. The event also featured presentations from industry leaders, including Madieya Al Zaabi, ADNOC’s Domestic Value Execution Specialist, who shared valuable insights into ADNOC’s Domestic Value program, driving local sourcing and economic diversification.

Abdulla Eissa Saleh Al Hammadi, ADNOC’s Onshore Technology Advisor, showcased ADNOC’s Techroad programme, underscoring the organization’s commitment to decarbonisation, transformation and embracing new growth opportunities.

These presentations aim to empower UAE businesses by giving them a deeper understanding of the energy landscape and opening doors for potential collaborations.

Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to attend contractor briefings, where industry experts shared updates on various projects and developments, providing valuable networking opportunities for local companies. The day culminated in a thought-provoking panel session titled “Are we witnessing a rebalancing of the energy transition?”.

EIC Regional Director Ryan McPherson expressed his satisfaction with the success of Connect UAE 2023, saying: “Connect UAE has become a flagship event, creating a platform for local companies to collaborate and drive growth opportunities. The EIC will continue to host high-quality events to Backed by data and high attendance to facilitate project opportunities for UK and international member companies exporting to the MENA region, as well as MENA companies seeking to export.”

On 15 May, EIC celebrated its 80th anniversary in Abu Dhabi, one of several events organized by EIC around the world to commemorate its Oak Jubilee.

McPherson gave the opening remarks, followed by a video from Terry Willis, EIC’s former Regional Director for the Middle East. Members also shared their congratulations and reflections on being part of the EIC community in a special video. The campaign included a raffle where Motive Offshore Middle East Country Manager Graeme Chalmers won the ‘Long Live the King 2022 Putter’ in a lucky draw.
