The Theater Steering Committee at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado sets a season for Callaway Theater’s stage production.
“We’re excited to bring a full year of live theater to Eldorado,” said committee chair Katie Carraway Hayes. “We have three great shows coming up, and now is a great time to get involved with the South Arkansas Arts Center and our community theater.”
This fall, SAAC’s mystery unfolds with the production of “Death Trap,” a comedy-thriller full of plot twists, double-crossings, and sinister motives.
Ira Levin’s Tony Award-winning play centers on playwright Sidney Bruhl, who will do whatever it takes to beat the writer’s block and stage another hit, and his Talented student Clifford. Sponsored by Southern Bancorp and Nexans-AmerCable, the show will run from November 4-12, with auditions scheduled for September 19-20.
In Spring 2022, Audrey II, the famous carnivorous plant, will take the stage in The Little Shop of Horrors, sponsored by Murphy-Pitard Jewelers. Written by Alan Menken and written by Howard Ashman, the musical uses rock, doo-wop and Motown musical styles about an oppressed flower named Seymour The story of the shop, who discovers he has grown a mysterious plant that will soon change the lives of everyone around them. Show dates are March 3-11.
Finally, the season will end with a spectacular summer musical with ‘Newsies: The Musical’ running from July 14-17 and 20-24, 2022. Inspired by the 1899 New York City newsboys’ strike, the show, based on the 1992 Disney film, pits scrappy young newspaper sellers against tycoon Joseph Pulitzer in an age-old battle of the losers. This high-energy musical for all ages will be sponsored by Murphy USA.
SASAC is currently accepting director applications for “Death Trap” and “Shop of Horror”.Interested individuals should provide Laura Allen with a letter of intent, resume and a short production proposal at laura@saac-arts.org until September 1st.
