Elon Musk launches Starlink in Iran amid government internet shutdown | World News

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Friday that he will launch the company’s satellite internet service, Starlink in Iran That comes amid massive protests in the country that have led to the government shutting down the internet.

As U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the U.S. took action to “promote internet freedom and the free flow of information” to Iranians, Elon Musk said SpaceX would do its part for Iran by activating Starlink.

Iran witnesses mass protests Mahsa Amini died in custody this week after being arrested by the ethics police for wearing “inappropriate clothing” (without a headscarf). Iran has imposed severe restrictions on internet use to prevent protesters from gathering amid international condemnation.

Elon Musk said Monday that his Company wants to supply Starlink satellites Provide broadband services to Iran and ask for sanctions exceptions. Starlink services have been provided to Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

The Oslo-based Iranian human rights group said at least 50 people had been killed by security forces during anti-government protests, AFP reported.
