Elon MuskOn April 13, mother Mayer Musk was awarded an honorary doctorate in nutrition by a South African university in recognition of her contribution to nutrition research. Earning a doctorate after dedicating her adult life to the research and outreach of nutritionists is “the best recognition ever,” she tweeted.

“I am now Dr. Maye Musk! Thank you Free State University for awarding me a PhD in Nutrition. After dedicating my adult life to nutrition research and being promoted as a nutritionist, this is the best recognition ever! This ceremony has me in tears Tears. It wasn’t my plan, but it was the pinnacle of my accomplishment,” she said as she shared a video clip of herself wearing a red graduation gown to receive her Ph.D.

Mayer Musk recalled her memories of being honored at the Free State University Bloemfontein campus and shared how she earned her master’s degree from there. “It was so unexpected. Thank you so much for this honor. My kids are so proud of me. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The experience in Bloemfontein and the Kovsies has been wonderful, every day Everyone has been great. Thank you,’ she was quoted by the university as saying.

Maye Musk, 75, is a registered dietitian and is known for taking registration exams in three countries. She has been in the nutritional business for over 45 years.
