Elton John and Britney Spears collaborated for the first time on the single Hold Me Closer, which allowed pop icons to transform old sounds into new ones.
The piano-driven single uses Elton’s 1971 hit Tiny Dancer as a skeleton and adds elements from his songs The One and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
While Elton has been releasing new music over the past few years, including 2021’s 16-track album The Lockdown Sessions, the song represents Britney Spears’ first new music since 2016’s Glory, and Her first new music since the end of controversial regulation.

The track is reminiscent of last year’s hit Cold Heart (PNAU Remix), which incorporates Elton’s hits Kiss the Bride, Rocket Man, Where’s the Shoorah? And sacrificed to the dance music sung by Dua Lipa.
Elton and Britney first met at an Oscar party in 2014, and she later tweeted her love for the little dancer, planting the seeds for a recent collaboration.
