Emirates celebrates Diwali on flights to India

Emirates will be celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, on flights to and from India from October 23 to 28, serving Diwali cuisine in all cabins and select lounges.

From Eid to Christmas, from Thanksgiving to Chinese New Year, Emirates serves an international customer base and celebrates the many multicultural occasions on board. In honor of Diwali, customers travelling to and from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and Mumbai will enjoy an array of sumptuous Diwali sweets and desserts.

Economy class passengers will enjoy a hot breakfast and indulge in a traditional motichoor laddu. Motichoor laddus are one of the most popular sweets in India and come in different sizes, colours and ingredients.

Delicious plump flour balls are fried and simmered in a sweet concoction of cardamom and saffron into juicy bite-sized laddus. First and business class passengers will also receive an elegant hybrid nut tribooj adorned with shimmering edible silver leaves. The rich treat is made with milk and spices and added with delicately flavored nuts like cashews and pistachios to enhance its flavor.

In Dubai’s first and business class lounges, Diwali delicacies such as dal kachori and vegetable samosas are served with a crispy crust and a fragrant tamarind or mint chutney. Motichoor laddus will be served with angoori rabdi, an aromatic dessert made from cream cheese and sweetened with saffron-infused milk.

Further afield, in Cape Town’s Emirates lounges with a large Indian diaspora, travelers can enjoy nankhatai – Indian shortbread cookies made with flour, sugar and butter, gulab jamun – with cardamom, rose water and saffron Soaked decadent dough balls in syrup, world-famous jalebi – a spiral confection made with flour and yogurt, and the irresistible burfi, the iconic Indian milk-melt-in-your-mouth fudge.

In the world-class entertainment library on ice, passengers can choose from hundreds of Bollywood classics and get in the festive atmosphere. Passengers can browse and pre-select these movies or TV shows on the Emirates app before take-off, which can then be synced to ice from the moment they board.
