Emirates hotels attract 6 million tourists, spend 25 million nights in Q1

According to media reports, hotels in the UAE attracted nearly 6 million tourists, who spent 25 million hotel nights in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2019.

Furthermore, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the length of their stay in hotels has increased by 25% during the same period, while the hotel occupancy rate of 80% is one of the highest in the world.

Hotels achieved a total of AED11 billion ($3 billion) in revenue in the first quarter of 2022, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2019. The hotels returned to full capacity, with a total of nearly 200,000 hotel rooms.

In terms of flights and hotels, more than 20 million passengers arrived at the country’s airports in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 135% compared to 8.6 million in the same period in 2021.

Tourism contributed 3.4% to the country’s GDP over the past three years, for a total of 15%, compared to 11.6% in 2019.

These indicators underscore the growing confidence in the UAE’s tourism industry and its reputation locally or internationally, as well as the efficiency of its sustainable tourism policies and the success of initiatives, events and exhibitions aimed at supporting tourism.

China has strengthened its position on the world tourism map as a leading international tourism destination and ranked in the top ten in several international competitiveness indices related to tourism, tourism and hospitality in 2021.

The Ministry of Economy and its partners from federal and local authorities, in collaboration with the private sector and tourism organisations, have drafted a comprehensive national strategy to attract tourists and enhance the country’s position as a sustainable tourism destination, with a focus on foreseeing the future, Innovation and Technology.

Domestic Tourism Strategy The Domestic Tourism Strategy complements the UAE’s National Tourism Development Strategy as it plays a key role in attracting tourism-related investment and income and promoting tourism growth. In 2020, spending by local tourists increased by 33%, while spending by international tourists increased by 67%. In 2019, local tourists spent 22%, while international tourists spent 78%.

One of the key features of the internal tourism strategy launched in 2020 is the marketing of the country’s key natural, cultural, heritage and historical attractions, as well as the development of the country’s tourism services, highlighting the beauty of the tourism experience each emirate offers, and promoting entertainment, cultural and community events to increase the attractiveness of each emirate.

The world’s coolest winter sports tourism initiatives and programs are an important part of the country’s internal tourism strategy. The second edition of the campaign, which started in mid-December 2021 and runs until January 2021, generated AED 1.5 billion in total revenue and attracted more than 1.3 million visitors in 45 days.

The event highlights the country’s environmental and sustainable tourism advantages and allows visitors from all emirates to visit nature reserves, oases, mountains, islands and beaches to enjoy its biodiversity, while desert tours feature fun safaris .

Unified tourism logo As part of its revenue stream diversification and strategic development plan, as well as to develop tourism, the UAE has launched a unified tourism logo to complement its visual media identity to consolidate its global image and position and solidarity with efforts and energy to come. Expo 2020 Dubai Expo 2020 Dubai attracted record visitor numbers and tourism receipts, highlighting leadership in the travel, tourism, hospitality and entertainment industries. The event managed to attract more than 24 million visitors within six months.
