ABU DHABI, 17th February, 2023 (WAM) — The AJP No-Gi Abu Dhabi International Jiu-Jitsu Championships 2023 will kick off tomorrow at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, marking the An exciting new start to the Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu (AJP) season.
The tournament, in partnership with the AJP, is open to all nationalities and will include competitions in the Kids, Youth, Amateur, Professional and Masters categories.
The first day of the event, Saturday, will feature competitions in the Infants, Juniors and Juniors, Youth, Masters 1 and Masters 2 divisions starting at 11:00 am. The amateur and professional divisions will be held on Sunday.
Fahad Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “The AJP No-Gi Abu Dhabi International Jiu-Jitsu Championship caters to the ambitions of top athletes looking to start the season in the best possible way with the participation of professionals from around the world. … the game is their important training ground ahead of the upcoming tournament.
Tariq Al Bahri, Director General of AJP added: “Through AJP’s competitions in major cities around the world, we aim to make a significant contribution to the growth of the sport and reach more people. Over the past few years, these competitions have consolidated Abu Dhabi’s status as the sport’s capital, home to major championships and a desirable destination for athletes across the globe.”
Pedro Nascimento, an amateur blue ribbon player for Al Wahda Jiu-Jitsu, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying: “We are happy to be back on the mats for the AJP Championship. I hope this year will be more challenging, especially With more participants. The quality of the event is one factor that makes the competition more challenging.”
