Emirates News Agency – Abu Dhabi Arab Youth Center honors first cohort, launches second cohort of Arab Regional Development Program Youth Envoys

ABU DHABI, 15th December, 2022 (WAM) — The Arab Youth Centre, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has witnessed the graduation of the first cohort of the Youth Development Envoys Program in the Arab region, after expanding the program to include three New Arab states to support economic, social and human development paths.

The event was organized at the Center headquarters in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with UNDP and the Regional Center and was led by Khaled Abdul Shafie, Director of UNDP Regional Center for Arab States, and Dina al-Asa, United Nations Resident Coordinator Dr. Hugh represented in the UAE.

The Arab Youth Center and the United Nations Development Program signed an agreement to launch the second phase of the Youth Development Ambassador Program during the “Arab Youth Leaders Conference” in March last year to double down on the empowerment of youth in Arab countries, building their skills and practical capacity development subject experience.

This episode sees a group of young Arabs in UNDP offices in 13 Arab countries appointed as development ambassadors for their societies and countries, in addition to training their younger peers to develop qualitative skills in the various development jobs they undertake leap.

Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said the Arab Youth Center is committed to the continuous empowerment of youth through skills development and opportunities. The program aims to provide opportunities for Arab youth to take on greater responsibility and develop competencies and develop skills through these real-world experiences.

“What I love about this program is that it fosters a sense of connection and belonging, helping young people develop their sense of identity. Contributing to a cause, a decision and/or a group at UNDP Experiences are critical to developing a sense of responsibility, purpose and self-worth in youth.”

“AYC continues to believe in the importance of engaging young people as key informants in the design and development of new programs designed to benefit them,” said Al Mazrui.

“The program combines creativity and innovation. Both innovation and creativity are stimulated by challenging young people to take on well-defined tasks and then providing the guidance they need when obstacles or unexpected outcomes are encountered,” she added.

In this context, Khaled Abdul Shafie said: “The sponsorship of the Development Envoy by the Arab Youth Center through the United The Center for Impact and Engagement serves the community through field projects and contributes to supporting their peers through experience transfer, knowledge exchange and training to enhance their skills.

He added: “We will continue to work with the UN program to train young people in best practice for development work. We will build on previous experience to maximize the benefits and impact, the program is overcoming many challenges, not least the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which empowers young people to turn challenges into opportunities.”

Excellent opportunity for young people

The Arab Regional Youth Development Envoys program works with Arab Youth Centers and the United Nations Development Program to provide quality opportunities for elite youth who aspire to accelerate the development of Arab societies and align them with the Sustainable Development Goals for UN Development in their countries. The UNDP office works for two years.

After the first tranche included 10 Arab countries including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon, Djibouti, Palestine, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, the second tranche expanded to include three new Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait , and Algeria, where young trainees work in UNDP offices in 13 Arab countries.

Through the programme, the Arab Youth Center aims to support young people in the Arab region, investing in their potential to achieve the SDGs in their countries, exposing Arab youth to the UN framework, in addition to providing opportunities for young envoys to network with colleagues in the program Communication and partnership.
