ABU DHABI, 14th October, 2022 (WAM) — High-achieving students of the International Certificate of Proficiency in Arabic (CIMA) will be recognised for their language excellence at an awards ceremony.
The CIMA credential is the first accredited credential, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) under the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Culture and Tourism in partnership with the Paris-based Institute for the Arab World (IMA). Assess proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic.
The news was announced at an event held at the headquarters of the French Union in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Rector of the UAE University; Dr Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC; Antoine Delcourt, Belgian Ambassador to the UAE; Sultan Al Hajji, Chairman of the French Abu Dhabi Alliance; Hugo Henry Ceylan, French Cultural Advisor; ALC Acting Executive Director Saeed Al Tunaiji and French Alliance Director Franck Trouilloud.
The test is aimed at those who want to measure their language ability, whether applying for a job, studying or understanding their level of ability. Certificates are issued after candidates have undergone an academic test of Arabic language skills.
The tests are carried out by the Francophonie Union, which oversees the testing centres for the UAE CIMA certificate, which is valid for three years. The ALC will soon hold a ceremony at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi to honour the best performers in the exam.
The ALC President said: “The CIMA exam is one of the most important joint programmes of the ALC and IMA, both organisations working to support the reading and writing of Arabic by non-native speakers while promoting its use as a global language. Culture, Communication, Science and creativity.
“Today, we celebrate the achievements of a group of outstanding candidates from different disciplines with the CIMA certificate, which confirms the importance of Arabic as a world language.”
Dr Bin Tamin said the IMA was the ideal partner to support the ALC in promoting the Arabic language globally, encouraging its use in France and Europe and highlighting its important contribution to global culture.
Within the framework of the agreement between ALC and IMA, Alliance Française will promote the examination, record the number of applicants for the year and their proficiency, and share information on key performance indicators.
ALC and IMA will also organize joint events with international organizations to support the Arabic language and expand cooperation in exchanging expertise by participating in conferences, collaborating on publications and programs, and organizing cultural events. The two sides also agreed on a joint action plan to publish a report on the Arabic language and its use across Europe.
