ABU DHABI, 7th November, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi University (ADU) Faculty of Engineering has hosted its second annual STEM coding competition as part of the university’s UAE National Coder Programme support activities.
The competition presents students with real-world STEM challenges, pitting them against three-hour coding solutions, strategizing and working together to win. The competition featured 710 entrants from 170 teams across the UAE, judged in real-time by 15 faculty members, and submitted 1,331 solutions.
On the school track, Abu Dhabi Brighton Academy took first place with an impressive 62 minutes to solve the challenge. Horizon Private School came second and Cambridge High School came third.
The rest of the top ten schools include Private International English School, ADNOC School, Um Al Emarat School, GEMS Cambridge International School, Al Bashair Private School, Khalifa Bin Zayed Secondary School and Umm Al Momineen School. The university also celebrated outstanding student mentoring at 11 schools.
After the competition, an awards ceremony was held to recognize the best student mentors from 11 schools, the top ten teams in the school tournament, and the young programmers in grades 7 and 8. The ceremony saw the participation of more than 421 current students, teachers, supervisors and principals.
Dr. Hamdi Sheibani, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) said: “Following the success of the first, we are proud to host the second annual STEM coding competition. The competition is a valuable experience that provides diversity to students and dynamic skills that support them to thrive in their future careers. This year, we have witnessed a large number of students showing interest in learning more about coding and programming.”
