Emirates News Agency – ADEK selects first batch of Khotwa Scholarship Program for international studies

ABU DHABI, 23rd December, 2022 (WAM) — 140 UAE National Scholars participated in the inaugural Khotwa (RizeUp) Scholarship Program launched by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, successfully passed a rigorous application and selection process program, they are completing their preparations to start their higher education studies at community colleges in the United States and Canada next month.

Before the start of the winter term in January, the first successful applicants attended a pre-departure gathering where ADEK’s RizeUp advisors and representatives from the U.S. and Canadian embassies briefed 94 male and 46 female academics who briefed the academics The expectations of their respective study countries are introduced.

Dr. Bashaer Almatrooshi, Acting Executive Director, Talent Enablement, ADEK said:

“This experience will boost their personal and academic development and we are confident that they will make the most of the opportunity. Our students will study specializations that represent priority sectors on the UAE’s national economic agenda. Khotwa exemplifies ADEK’s commitment to delivering unique learning opportunities to enable Emiratis to fulfill their potential and enable them to contribute to the development of the national economy.”

ADEK was initially designed for 100 successful applicants, and the inaugural Khotwa (RizeUp ) planned capacity studies, scenario simulations and soft skills training. More than 1,600 students were enrolled in the program and 140 scholars were selected after achieving the highest marks in the assessment criteria.

Dr Bashaer Almatrooshi said: “Talented candidates demonstrate strong learning abilities, a willingness to take on new challenges and a commitment to success, which encourages us to expand our first-year enrollment and help more scholars start their higher education journey of.

“We are confident that selected scholars will persevere in their new journey and we will continue to support them at every stage through 24/7 advisory support from January to graduation.”

The 120 successful candidates will now spend two years studying at community colleges in North America and Europe, with 114 scholars traveling to the United States and 26 to Canada, where they will then transfer their credits to international or local universities to complete a bachelor’s degree.

While abroad, Khotwa (RizeUp) students will live with local families carefully selected by ADEK. The homestay program will provide students with a safe and welcoming atmosphere while studying. This opportunity will also help students improve their English language skills while developing their cultural understanding and tolerance.

Khotwa (RizeUp) students receive a living stipend in addition to paying tuition and living expenses during their homestay program at the community college and during their bachelor’s degree.

The AED1.9 billion Khotwa (RizeUp) initiative aims to provide quality education opportunities to 6,000 Emiratis by 2028. The program provides alternative higher education pathways to high school graduates from a variety of academic and social backgrounds who have not previously received scholarships. This fully funded program provides students with a broad range of international educational experiences, enabling them to transform their mindsets, realize their full potential and contribute to the growth of Abu Dhabi’s knowledge-based economy.
