ABU DHABI, 20th March, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, has been crowned champion of the 2023 Abu Dhabi Schools Sports Cup.
A thrilling under-15 boys’ and girls’ football final was held at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi city. In the girls’ final, Brighton Academy Abu Dhabi beat British school Al Khubairat 2-1, while International School Choueifat (Mushrif) beat their International School colleagues 1-0 to claim Boys U15 champions Choueifat (Al Ain) .
Sara Musallam, Minister of State for Early Education, Chairman of the Federal Early Education Establishment (FAEE) and Chairman of ADEK, together with Mubarak Hamad Al Muhairi, Deputy Minister of ADEK, presented trophies and medals to all champions of the Abu Dhabi Schools Sports Cup 2023 .
The competition began in January with more than 8,000 entrants, including students from more than 200 public, private and charter schools, as well as universities across the Emirates.
“The Abu Dhabi Schools Sports Cup is part of a wider sporting programme, and we are delighted to see the growth of promising talent as we continue to expand the competition by adding different disciplines in line with our strategic aim of building active school communities ,” Musallam said.
“Sports competitions provide a unique opportunity for young people to develop important values such as teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship,” she added. “The Abu Dhabi Schools Sports Cup is an important part of our efforts to improve our students’ physical fitness as well as their interpersonal and social skills, which can have a positive impact on their academic performance. By fostering a culture of physical activity and healthy competition, we can help future generations Develop the skills and habits they need to live happy, fulfilling lives. We believe that investing in school sports is investing in the future of our communities.”
Passionate sports enthusiasts from family, friends and the entire Abu Dhabi community come for a professional sports experience. The event kicked off with an energetic opening ceremony, with students from Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Awal School performing the national anthem. Intermission performances celebrated the winners of 12 winning teams from 6 different categories and saw a special appearance by the Abu Dhabi Police Band. The much-anticipated award ceremony for the winners brought the atmosphere to a climax and made everyone enjoy it.
