ABU DHABI, 30th August, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, ADPHC, has launched the Abu Dhabi Public and Preventive Health System as the cornerstone of the Centre’s vision for a healthy and safe society.
The decree defines the key responsibilities of Abu Dhabi entities in managing all aspects of public and preventive health and covers eight pillars such as communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, occupational health and safety, environmental health, community health, information and research , advocacy programs, and public health emergencies and crises.
ADPHC will work with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) to prepare and develop systems, policies, circulars and initiatives to meet the requirements of Abu Dhabi’s public and preventive health system.
Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, said: “Since the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, thanks to the wise directives of our leadership to put the safety and well-being of the community first, we have made our way through Abu Dhabi Public and Preventive Health. Systems and other initiatives in an effort to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional and global leader in healthcare.
“In line with the direction of the Abu Dhabi Government, the Abu Dhabi Public Health and Preventive Health System was launched as a strategic complement to the emirate’s public health sector. Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, said: “The new system follows the wise decision of our leadership to establish the ADPHC in 2019. The infectious disease chapter of the system outlines the requirements for managing infectious diseases by addressing aspects related to surveillance, investigation, surveillance, and vaccination needed to prevent and control outbreaks of infectious diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the importance of disseminating information about infectious diseases domestically and globally.
Likewise, the chapter on NCDs focuses on identifying and updating lists of diseases and priorities for addressing them based on currently available data and statistics nationally and globally.
The system also addresses occupational health and safety by defining the responsibilities of employers and workers in the public and private sectors, emphasizing the need to assess and reduce risks associated with various workplace activities, and promoting an occupational health and safety culture. It also helps determine the standards and requirements needed to protect worker and community health from occupational and environmental risks by assessing potential sources of environmental contamination.
The community health chapter covers all aspects of home and school health, with particular emphasis on the importance of medical and preventive screening of pregnant women and newborns. The chapter also emphasizes the importance of educating community members on all matters affecting their health.
In line with ADPHC’s commitment to investing in innovative and intelligent data and its applications, the system devotes an entire chapter to identifying and categorizing research and data management activities related to public and preventive health. Through this, it underlines the importance of developing and implementing education and awareness programmes, unifying messages and priorities in this area, and preparing for emergencies such as epidemics and epidemics.
