Emirates News Agency – AJP Tour Abu Dhabi International Jiu-Jitsu Championship concludes

ABU DHABI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — The AJP Tour Abu Dhabi International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships concluded on Sunday at the Mubadala Arena, with top performances in each weight and belt division A wonderful weekend.

The mighty Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club was the big winner, forcing Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club to second and Al-Ain third.

Organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) in association with the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professional (AJP), the event saw intense competition between amateur and professional categories on the final day, demonstrating passion and great skill.
Abdul Monem Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Chairman of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Senior Vice-President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, was in attendance at Sunday’s competition.

After the competition, the award ceremony for the winners was attended by UAEJJF Vice President Mohammed Salem Al-Dhaheri, UAEJJF Board Member Mansour Mohammed Al Dhaheri and UAEJJF Director of Technology Mubarak Al Menhali.

Also present at the Mubadala Arena were Albino Malungo, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the UAE, Youssef Al Batran, Member of the Board of Directors of the UAEJJF, and some officials from the UAEJJF and participating clubs and academies.

Mansour Al Dhaheri, board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized that the AJP Championships are on par with the highest international standards both organizationally and technically.
“As expected, the AJP Circuit Abu Dhabi International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships was a great success, especially in terms of attendance, as it was able to attract a large number of experienced stars. The hundreds of men’s and women’s players provided a highly competitive environment, proving that the UAE is the home of champions and the destination of choice for them to achieve glory.”
Al Dhaheri emphasized that the competition provides a conducive environment for Emirati athletes and their competitors to prepare for international and continental competitions.
Mohammed Alswaidi of the Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club, who won gold in the Men’s Brown/Pro/69kg category, said: “Winning a medal means that the excellent training I have done has paid off. We are eager to get the most out of the UAEJJF Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the All the resources that the club has given us. We also believe that every game is an opportunity for us to give back to them and make the country proud.”
Nabiev from EaglesBjj, Russia, who won gold in the Men’s Blue/Amateur/85kg category, said: “I came all the way from Dagestan to compete in the AJP Tour Abu Dhabi International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships and it was worth it , because I can grab a medal. I know the game will not be easy at all, because the greatest players in the world will go to the Abu Dhabi Championship. However, success depends on the preparation I have made; As a result, I am standing on the podium today .”
Lilit Danielyan from Legacy Jiu-Jitsu Armenia took bronze in the Women’s Purple/Pro/55kg. She said: “I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Abu Dhabi Championships, but today I really got to experience it for myself. It’s the perfect destination for those looking to live out their dreams in the sport. This tournament is an example of masterful planning and staging to the highest international standards.”
