[ad_1]

ABU DHABI, 9th May, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates Water and Electricity Company, EWEC, has announced that it will hold its second quarter Clean Energy Certificate (CEC) auction in Abu Dhabi, registration is now open and auction closes on 14 June 2023 day.

As registrant and auction operator, EWEC is responsible for implementing the CECs program. It provides Abu Dhabi-based organizations with a viable tool to demonstrate their commitment to a sustainable future and showcase concrete steps taken to reduce carbon emissions in line with the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategy initiative.

Purchasing CECs allows organizations to track and verify their clean energy consumption, thereby decarbonizing their operations.

Francois Brice, executive director of fuel and business at EWEC, said that as the UAE prepares to host COP28 later this year, it is imperative that companies take deliberate and tangible steps to support the UAE’s environmental and sustainable development agenda. EWEC’s CEC auction enables companies to decarbonise energy consumption and actively supports the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

CEC is a digital certificate that verifies that the electricity consumed comes from clean energy sources such as solar or nuclear. Issued by the Department of Energy (DoE) in units of 1 MWh, these certificates are currently the only accredited vehicle in Abu Dhabi that can demonstrate ownership of the environmental and economic benefits of clean energy consumption.

In addition, CEC complies with the International REC Standard (I-REC), providing participating companies with a competitive advantage by certifying their sustainability efforts globally.

EWEC is one of the main parties responsible for implementing the Abu Dhabi CEC scheme, acting as the single registrant and auction operator.

Registration for the upcoming CEC auction is now open and all Abu Dhabi organizations and entities are encouraged to participate. To track and verify clean energy consumption, visit www.ewec.ae/en/CleanEnergyCertificates Or contact EWEC’s Clean Energy Credentials team at CleanEnergyCertificates@ewec.ae.
