ABU DHABI, 21st February, 2023 (WAM) — The Global Women’s Summit 2023 kicked off in Abu Dhabi with the honor of Sheikha Fatima bint Moore, President of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Motherhood and Supreme Council Chairperson. His Excellency Barack’s sponsor Childhood and Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and “Mother of the Nation”. Organized by the World Council of Muslim Communities (TWMCC) and GWU, the two-day event was themed “The Role of Women Leaders in Peacebuilding, Social Integration and Prosperity”.
Sheikha Fatima’s opening remarks were delivered by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the United Arab Emirates Independent Climate Change Accelerator (UICCA). In her speech, Sheikha Fatima welcomed all participants to the UAE, a country of humanity where all are welcome without discrimination. She emphasized that Abu Dhabi was proud to host the summit, which was attended by many world leaders.
The summit comes at a time when humanity needs to overcome the impact of health epidemics and various socioeconomic crises, and women play a key role in these times. Sheikha Fatima noted that empowering women is one of the priorities of the UAE leadership, which is comprised of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Led by His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, members of His Highness’ Supreme Council and Ruler of the Emirate, who are passionate about establishing schools and universities and empowering women in all fields.
She highlighted that women in the UAE make up more than half of the workforce in the public and education sectors, over one-third in the Cabinet, and half of the seats in the Federal National Council (FNC). UAE has drafted laws to protect women’s rights, dignity and freedom. Law enforcement authorities have succeeded in creating a culture that protects and respects women and ensures their freedom to work, move and enjoy life.
Sheikha Fatima affirmed the UAE as a unique universal model of tolerance, diversity and coexistence, and was keen to learn from and benefit from other experiences and great practices. The Summit provides an opportunity for all attendees to exchange expertise and ideas, and represents a great example of humanity as it brings together women from all walks of life and all walks of life in their communities.
The campaign aims to help bring about safety, peace and social harmony by engaging women to share their expertise, success stories, ideas and visions for the future. Themes for the event were carefully selected to address challenges facing the global community. Peacemaking has become a complex process due to new crises and problems that require enormous efforts to restore peace and security. Social cohesion is a real challenge for communities across the globe, especially with the growing popularity of social media, which increases the risk of racism, sectarianism, social violence and riots.
Sheikha Fatima added that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid international crises and natural disasters, achieving comprehensive development is a major challenge for many countries. The summit will also help coordinate efforts to involve women in peacemaking and social stability processes, especially for victims of epidemics, natural disasters and wars.
She concluded by describing the UAE’s approach to achieving peace, promoting humanitarian action, spreading tolerance and coexistence, and rebuilding communities. The approach was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and has been carried on and strengthened by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
