ABU DHABI, 5th April, 2023 (WAM) — Under the auspices of the Higher Council for Traffic Safety, the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) of Abu Dhabi has launched the School Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Horizon Private School, Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Cooperation with STS Group.
The launch took place in the presence of representatives from schools and the UAE Road Safety Platform.
The goal of the awareness campaign is to ensure the safety of students traveling to and from school. They will target 6,500 students in 20 schools over six months. The campaign was carried out in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Education and Knowledge, and STS Group, UAE’s CSR partner for road safety.
The event aims to empower the student community to become advocates for road and traffic safety by providing a unique learning environment of curated road safety lessons, interactive videos and games.
During active workshops, students are assigned the appropriate level of study (Primary/Intermediate/Advanced) based on their grades. In addition, they take road safety management courses and engage in engagement activities through interactive games and quizzes that teach them to view road safety as an ongoing responsibility.
The program of study covers topics such as travel safety protocols on school buses as well as road and emergency protocols. One of the learning modules is based on local laws related to the use of personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as bicycles and e-bikes. The activity includes an interactive board game designed to teach students about road safety practices and danger zones around school buses. The winners of the competition received a goody bag, a bicycle for one lucky student and an e-bike for another lucky student.
