The Bus on Demand service in Khalifa City will operate throughout the week from 06:00 to 23:00 and will be distributed in different areas of Khalifa City, ITC said. The Hafilat smart card can be used to pay fares through the automatic payment system on the bus. The system calculates and deducts the travel value from the prepaid electronic card balance that can be topped up and topped up.
The idea of ​​the Bus on Demand service is to provide on-demand transportation to members of the society, enabling them to travel within a specific area and transporting them from different points to the nearest station, or to a public transport facility or any other destination where a bus operates within the area. The service represents a mode of transport based on the first and last mile principle, involving the on-demand operation of minibuses within specific areas of the emirate through a smart app. It encourages tourists and residents of these areas to use public transport for internal transport as it reduces walking distances and waiting times.
The service is convenient and quick to use through the “Abu Dhabi Link” smart application, which is available for download on smart devices such as smartphones through the Apple Store and Google Play. After downloading the app, passengers can follow the steps below: specify the passenger’s location and target destination before booking, then follow the route specified in the app to the location of the bus, which will be the closest possible point for the passenger. The bus type and license plate number will also appear on the app, and passengers can track the bus route and travel time from request to destination destination.
Since the first launch of the Bus on Demand service in Al Shahama City at the end of 2020, the service has achieved amazing success and positive feedback from the public, and its introduction to the Yas and Saadiyat Islands, the total number of people on the service since the service was launched, The number of passengers benefiting from the service has reached 587,000. The number of individuals who downloaded the Abu Dhabi Link app reached over 51,300. These efforts are in line with ITC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the public transport network and facilitate the mobility of individuals, providing innovative and smart services in a convenient manner that matches their needs and expectations, enabling individuals to reach their destinations in a safe and convenient manner.
ITC explained that the Bus on Demand service strengthens the public bus transport network and supports ITC’s efforts to expand service coverage, diversify transport options and bring public bus service closer to places frequented by families and members of the community. The new service is expected to see widespread participation by residents and tourists of Khalifa City, especially in the transportation between residential areas, service facilities and major areas of the city.
