Emirates News Agency – KEZAD community signs agreement with Abu Dhabi Energy Services Company to promote energy efficiency projects in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 25th May, 2023 (WAM) — KEZAD Communities, a real estate investment company specializing in residential solutions for employees, and Abu Dhabi Energy Services, ADES, a preeminent builder of energy efficiency capabilities and Abu Dhabi A subsidiary of the National Energy Company (TAQA) has announced a partnership agreement for energy efficiency projects in Abu Dhabi.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy (DoE), and Mohamed Al Khadar Al Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD Group. The agreement was signed by KEZAD Communities CEO Abdulaziz A. Bawazeer and ADES CEO Khalid Mohammed Al Qubaisi.

The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to advance Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030. The strategy set targets for a 22% reduction in electricity consumption and a 32% reduction in water consumption.

The MoU also aligns with the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021-2023, which promotes sustainable consumption patterns to minimize environmental impact.

Under the agreement, ADES will act as the project developer to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of water and electricity consumption at the facilities operated by KEZAD Communities. ADES will assess current consumption patterns and provide a comprehensive study outlining recommendations to improve consumption efficiency, resulting in tangible savings for the KEZAD community.

This collaboration will drive growth in the local energy services market, enabling organizations to future-proof their operations while delivering economic and environmental sustainability benefits to the KEZAD community. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to support the UAE’s goal of achieving national net-zero emissions by 2050 through the alliance.

Our partnership with ADES has ensured that we not only understand consumption patterns, but have a clear plan to use resources sustainably and efficiently while remaining environmentally friendly.”

The MoU for ADES and KEZAD pave the way for communities to utilize cutting-edge energy efficiency measures to reduce energy demand and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

The agreement outlines key areas of collaboration between ADES and KEZAD Communities, such as improving building retrofit operations by upgrading or optimizing systems to increase hydropower efficiency while reducing consumption.

The partnership will also focus on energy sustainability initiatives, promoting energy efficiency initiatives and developing strategies to optimize hydropower consumption.

In addition, the parties will work together to increase stakeholder behavioral awareness and instil energy-saving habits, while actively promoting the implementation of programs aimed at achieving energy efficiency benchmarks and targets. This holistic approach will promote sustainable practices, optimize resource use and contribute to a cleaner, greener future for Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

The signing of the agreement follows ADES’ recently announced partnership projects with various Abu Dhabi government entities, demonstrating ADES’ unwavering commitment to forging strategic alliances to strengthen the United Arab Emirates’ sustainable development goals. By joining forces with prominent stakeholders, ADES continues to play a key role in driving the expansion of the local energy services market and leading Abu Dhabi towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.

KEZAD Communities, a KEZAD Group company and part of AD Ports Group’s Economic Cities and Free Zones, oversees over 40 staff accommodations within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with over 450,000 beds. The company recently completed its merger with Eskan Al Jamaee. Its stake is worth approximately AED7 billion, making it one of the largest such enterprises in the UAE.
