ABU DHABI, 9th February, 2023 (WAM) — Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO, UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerator, UICCA, participated as a keynote speaker at Roots: Green Acts Across Generations, which is Organized by Rabdan Academy, Jubail Mangrove Park, Abu Dhabi.
The event was attended by more than 50 students from Labudin College and other national universities in the country, a number of senior citizens, representatives of national entities related to action on the environment, climate and sustainable development, and experts from the private sector.
On the occasion, UICCA President and CEO Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan said: “Our nation’s youth play an integral role in determining the future of the UAE and our planet, as their voices and actions today Impact for future generations will be driven.It is important that actors from both the public and private sectors are actively involved in mentoring and empowering these young people to explore new solutions and adopt innovative thinking to meet the ever-changing sustainability challenges we face.
James Morse, Dean of Rabdan Academy, said: “This special event coincides with the proclamation by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan that 2023 will be the ‘Year of Sustainable Development’ and calls on community members and Institutions are involved with relevant initiatives and activities, so “Roots: Green Action Across Generations” aims to develop and refine young people’s skills in strategic and vital areas to keep up with the rapid changes and idiosyncratic circumstances of this era.
Morse also added that inviting Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan as the keynote speaker for the event was an opportunity for participants to enrich their knowledge on issues related to environmental sustainability, climate change, clean energy and their innovative solutions Real opportunity, based on her pioneering experience in this field.
Roots: Intergenerational Green Action focuses on high-level thematic resources in support of national sustainable development strategies, protecting the environment and its resources for future generations, addressing the challenges of climate change, young people adopting behaviors focused on sustainable management of natural resources, and other related areas .
During the panel discussion, Sunilan Balan, Founder and Managing Director of German Gulf Engineering Consultants, highlighted the importance of the private sector working with governments on sustainability initiatives and giving back to the community. Balan said, “Here in the German Gulf, we see this as mission-critical, which has led us to jointly launch our Integrated Climate Action Movement and Energy Management Internship Program – Living in Harmony with the Community and the Environment – with the UAE University, which aims to support the UAE’s Climate Change Initiative and hosting COP 28′.
Sheikha Shamma joined participants in a mangrove planting event and was given a detailed presentation on the characteristics of mangroves and their importance in the fight against climate change.
Rabdan Academy views sustainability as an integral part of its strategic initiatives as it ties in with the essence of the Academy’s work by offering specialized academic and vocational programs that are critical to enhancing national resilience and promoting safety, security, business continuity and risk contribute significantly to the country’s management ecosystem.
