ABU DHABI, 20th January, 2023 (WAM) — Guido Migliozzi scored well on day two of the 2023 HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi, entering the weekend tied for the top spot with compatriot Francesco Molinari.
The Italian duo put on a strong showing in last week’s inaugural Heroes Cup, beating Great Britain and Ireland 14.5-10.5 over three days, both contributing 3.5 points and remaining unbeaten.
They were in top form again on their second day at the Slinks in Abu Dhabi, finishing strong at 10 under par at the halfway point of the first Rolex Series of the season.
Migliozzi capped off his second-round 69 with a birdie hat-trick to join Molinari in the top spot after a second-round 67 with six birdies on the back nine in the morning .
With the wind picking up in the afternoon and no one able to catch the Italian pair at the top, Jason Scrivner was 9 under after four birdies and two bogeys in his 70. The pole score became their closest challenger.
Alexander Levy returned to action after an 11-month absence with a back injury, playing alongside Frenchman Victor Perez, Swede Alexander Björk, South African George Coetzee and Scot Scott Jamieson A score of 8 under par.
Darkness has descended on Yas Links and the second round is not over yet, so those who still have holes to play will return to finish their rounds on Saturday. Round three will begin with a one-shot tee no earlier than 8:00 a.m. local time.
