Emirates News Agency – Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure reviews its ambitious initiatives and projects in support of climate action

ABU DHABI, 14th January, 2023 (WAM) — The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure participated in the ADSW, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, ADNEC, from 14th to 19th January, 2023, entitled “Together at COP 28 Promoting Climate Action”, which examines innovative and groundbreaking initiatives and the most prominent and ambitious projects supporting sustainability, as well as the country’s achievements in the energy sector, especially clean energy.

The Ministry will also conclude a series of agreements to support the UAE’s work process and its goals to achieve sustainable development in various sectors, especially the energy sector, as well as positive impact on the issue of climate action, which is one of the most important challenges facing the UAE as a whole world and benefit from a constructive dialogue that contributes to climate neutrality.

Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “This ADSW meeting is important for several reasons, most notably the impact of global change on climate and the environment, As it is also the most prominent sustainability-related global event after the 27th Meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27, at a time when the UAE is seeking to unify climate action efforts ahead of organizing a special edition of COP28 as a preeminent platform for dialogue , capable of delivering realistic solutions that contribute to climate neutrality, and the UAE’s strong interest in climate change issues and achieving sustainability across sectors.”

He added: “The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure will highlight innovative initiatives, projects, ambitious laws and legislation within its scope of engagement, its outstanding efforts in environmental sustainability and combating the phenomenon of climate change, and future goals in line with .Support the UAE towards global leadership in energy, sustainability and climate change through the Fifty Principles, effective steps and processes, and qualitative and ambitious initiatives to achieve the goals of Vision “Ours” UAE 2031 2071 and UAE Centenary Year 2071″.

Furthermore, he explained that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has achieved tangible results in the field of sustainable development within the framework of a message of wise leadership aimed at addressing the phenomenon of climate change and protecting the environment, and that the UAE has a clear vision to achieve climate neutrality, protect the environment and The future direction of natural resources and advance related plans. Thus, in October 2021, it announced a strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, making the UAE the first country in the MENA region to declare a goal in this area.

He emphasized that the UAE attaches great importance to energy diversification as a safe haven to achieve a balance between sustainable development and environmental protection, and is one of the leading countries in the use of carbon-free energy, including peaceful nuclear energy, as it becomes the first country in the Middle East to adopt The country operating the “Barakah” plant adds nuclear power to its grid, as well as CO2 capture technologies, in addition to diversifying energy sources, are very important as they are a promising solution that will help reduce carbon emissions in the future.

He continued: “We have worked hard in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure over the past period to strengthen the country and achieve sustainable growth through unified efforts and capabilities, to achieve climate neutrality, and to improve the status of clean energy. Various departments, because The Ministry has launched a number of initiatives and legislation in support of this approach, most notably the federal law regulating the connection of distributed renewable energy production units to the grid, aimed at enabling the production of electrical energy from renewable energy resources and other supports.
