Emirates News Agency – Ministry of Health – Abu Dhabi honors winners of 1st Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp

ABU DHABI, 19th June, 2023 (WAM) — As part of its role as a enabler of research and innovation, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, DoH, the regulator for the healthcare industry in the emirate, has honored the winners of the inaugural Medical Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp.

The ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Deputy Minister of Health.

The inaugural four-day Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp Challenge, run by Plug and Play Abu Dhabi, is the result of an ongoing partnership between the DoH and the Higher Institute of Technology (HCT) to increase entrepreneurship in the emirate.

During the event, HCT students were able to showcase their innovative and innovative healthcare solutions.

At the closing ceremony of the camp, the winning proposal was presented by Dr Noura Al Ghaithi, which addressed medical tourism in Abu Dhabi and connecting tourists with insurance companies. As a reward for their innovative efforts, the winning teams will now receive incubation support through the Abu Dhabi Global Tech Ecosystem.

During the four-day experiential training camp in Abu Dhabi, some students from HCT Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses creatively developed and designed innovative solutions to social real challenges in the field of healthcare in specific medical fields , covering primary care (comprehensive, continuous service to all patients), precision medicine (personalized patient plans to optimize outcomes) and smart hospitals (advanced technology improvements, high-quality inpatient services).

In primary care, students are tasked with designing feasible solutions to improve the current model of continuous and coordinated patient-centered healthcare delivery for all patients, especially at the beginning of the patient’s treatment journey. The fields of precision medicine and smart hospitals allow students to delve into the growing fields of digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, robotic automation, telemedicine, genomics, etc. to provide patients with rapid testing, treatment and results while providing innovative and comprehensive healthcare to community members.

Dr Al Ghaithi said: “The Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp is a continuation of our partnership with the Higher Institute of Technology to incubate start-ups and provide a comprehensive entrepreneurial ecosystem in the emirate. At DoH, we believe in the capabilities of young talent and their ability to innovate, “This helps us shape the future of healthcare and accelerate innovation at all levels of the industry. This is in line with our ongoing efforts to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for innovation and life sciences.”

HCT students from a variety of disciplines actively participate in a series of workshops and preparatory meetings, keynote presentations and mentoring sessions. Participants had the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals and industry leaders, and demonstrate their grit and determination before a panel of judges before the event’s closing pitch day.
